Florida Club Picks It Started with Dracula

A St. Augustine, Florida, book club selects BYB author Jane Congdon’s new memoir, It Started with Dracula: The Count, My Mother, and Me. The discussion meeting will be special for Congdon as well as the members; she’ll be there.

“It’s such an honor to have my book chosen,” she said. “The members invited me to speak at their meeting, and I have accepted.

“I can’t wait to see how the discussion questions we placed at the back of my book work for this group,” Congdon said. “I helped to write those questions, but I’ve never belonged to a book club. A Cincinnati-area club, the Fabulous Book Babes, helped me to shape my manuscript by reviewing two early drafts. That was so helpful. Taking part in the Florida discussion will be fun and a great learning experience.”

It Started with Dracula, published in fall 2011, is a chronicle of the author’s trip to Transylvania at age 59 and the connections she made there with her own life story. “It was transformational,” she said, “and I never expected that.”
