BLIND EYE

When Andrea Stone’s father, Gary Becks, a Vietnam veteran, founded Rescue Task Force (non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate suffering and provide developmental aid to those who have been marginalized by geography or economic deprivation), she could never have imagined how her life would change.

For over twenty years now, she has dedicated herself to alleviating suffering in some of the most remote corners of the world. Finally, in Blind Eye she shares her amazing and inspiring stories of a most remarkable journey.

Readers will join Andrea and other volunteers on their journeys to remote villages that have been all but forgotten by the rest of the world--places where often the natural beauty of the surroundings are in stark contrast to the living conditions of the villagers. Be it a clean water project in a remote jungle village in Honduras, building medical clinics for the Indians of the Moskito Coast, establishing Women’s Literacy Centers in the arid mountains of Afghanistan, or bringing disaster relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, readers will come to know and cheer for the grateful men, women, and children Andrea has come to help.

Blind Eye is a moving testament to our shared bonds of humanity and friendships forged across the gaping chasm of extreme need.  These deeply personal accounts of restored hope and saved lives will awaken your consciousness and remain forever etched in your heart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Andrea Stone is the executive director of Rescue Task Force, a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate suffering and provide medical and other immediate aid to victims of man-made and natural disasters world-wide.

Andrea has been a humanitarian since her teenage years, when at seventeen, she first volunteered assisting refugees in the jungles of Honduras and Nicaragua. She’s been a tireless crusader since, going wherever there is need: from delivering supplies to Tsunami victims in South West Asia, building medical clinics on the Honduran Moskito Coast, to providing literacy programs in Afghanistan, among others. Her current projects include building and delivering backpacks filled with necessities to the severely wounded U.S. military service members who have been med-evacuated into U.S. Military Hospitals.

“I love humanity,” says Andrea. “It helps if we all do.” She has been recognized for her Tsunami disaster relief in Asia along with her immediate response work after Hurricane Katrina. “There are so many ways we can all help one another,” says Andrea, “and we really must.”

Andrea lives in Imperial Beach, California, with her husband, and is the mother of two children who “share” her with thousands of children around the world.
